Rainy Day Travel Activities
Rain doesn't have to ruin a vacation. In face, some of the best travel memories happen when plans change and you discover something unexpected.
Here are some rainy-day activities to add to your travel itinerary:

Find a Local Coffee Shop
Skip the chain and look for a locallly owned cafe. Grab a warm drink, play a game, read, or simply watch the rain.
Visit a Museum
Art museums, history museum, science centers, and local cultural museums are perfect for a rainy afternoon-and they can give you a deeper connection to the destination you are visiting.
Take a Cooking Class
Learn how to make a local dish and enjoy the meal afterward. It's an experience you can take home with you. This is one that may involve some planning, but if the opportunity is given, this is a great way to stay out of the rain.
Explore a Local Market
Indoor markets are great for finding local food, handmade goods, souvenirs, and unique gifts.
Try Something You Don't Have at Home
Go bowling, visit an arcade, try indoor mini golf, or find an indoor climbing gym. Sometimes the unexpected activities become the favorites.
Have a Cozy Movie Day
There's nothing wrong with slowing down, especially if you have kids. Not every second of every day needs to be planned to be memorable. Order room service or local takeout, put on a movie, and enjoy a lazy afternoon.
Explore a Local Bookstore
Find an independent bookstore and pick up a book about the area- or choose something to read during the rest of your trip.
Go on a Food Adventure
Turn the rain into an excuse to try something new. Visit a bakery, find the best local dessert, take a food tour, or create your own indoor food crawl. (My husband and I try to find at least one food that we love from every vacation we have.)
Take a Historical Tour
Look for indoor walking tours, historic homes, theaters, landmarks, or cultural attractions.
Make Something
Try a pottery class, painting class, candle-making workshop, jewelry class, or another local creative experience. Take home something more than just pictures.
Have a Relaxation Day
Vacation doesn't always have to mean sightseeing. Book a massage, visit a spa, take a long bath, or simply enjoy a slower day.
Embrace the Rain
Sometimes the best option is to put on your rain jacket and go anyway. Walk through the city.
Take pictures.
Jump in puddles with the kids.
Find a scenic overlook.
Grab an umbrella and explore.
You might end up with on the most memorable photos of your entire trip.
The Best Travel Memories Don't Always Go According to Plan
A rainy day can turn into an opportunity to experience a destination differently. Instead of worrying about what you can't do, look for something you normally wouldn't have made time for.
Because the best vacations aren't always the ones with perfect weather - they're the ones filled with experiences you'll remember.
Your next adventure doesn't have to wait for sunshine.
